When did we get so distant?
At what moment did we drift apart?
When did we stop talking to each other?
When did we stop laughing at each others’ jokes?
When did our nights of long conversations turn to moments of brief greetings?
When did all this happen?
Or have we also become adults?
Have we grown up too much that chats are outdated?
Have late night calls become a thing of the olden days?
Do you remember we used to walk on the streets without anything to do?
Then, the Aunt opposite your mum’s shop will shout at us to go and read our books.
Do you remember we used to go to the woman by the side of the road just to buy her sweet puff puff?
You would eat up to ten puff puffs and then you’ll feel nauseated. I would laugh at you and keep on eating the remaining.
Do you remember we used to gist like crazy and laugh at things that weren’t even funny?
Where has our humour gone?
Do you remember we used alternate going to each others’ houses?
We learnt how to make hair just so we could make each other’s hair.
I wonder if all those times were just a dream
Or maybe a figment of my imagination
Or maybe series of events that I wished to happen.
When you read this, I hope you’ll confirm that all my recollections are not dreams.
I hope you’ll confirm that we were once best of friends .
Or maybe you’ll confirm that I’m mad in the head.
Maybe you’ll confirm that I formed this up.
Maybe you’ll confirm that I’m your stalker.
I just want to know …. what happened to us?
